Posted by dtigerdonna  |  News, Tournaments  |  Monday June 28, 2010 at 2:12 pm

In Arizona, the Dallas Tigers Arias 17u Tigers had a fantastic weekend. With a shorthanded pitching staff due to high school injuries, Arias’ Tigers hit their way to the quarterfinals. Our Tigers proved to everyone their that heart, determination and teamwork can take a team a long way, beating teams with big rosters, with several top pitchers. The Dallas Yankees and their “Hired Guns” found out that money doesn’t necessarily buy happiness. Our Tigers beat the Yankees in extra innings 4-2 with 15u Matt Wilson closing the game. Great job boys and coach Arias.

Tigers Hosted the Brooks Wallace Memorial Tournament

Posted by dtigerdonna  |  News, Tournaments  |  Tuesday June 22, 2010 at 1:45 pm

“The Dallas Tigers hosted the Brooks Wallace Memorial 16U Tournament June 18-20.  Congratulations to the Buzz Lightning Baseball Academy who defeated last year’s champs, the Texas Prospects, at Plano High School Sunday night. The tournament was held at Plano HS, Plano East and Plano West.

The Brooks Wallace Memorial honors the memory of Brooks Wallace, who was a three year letterman at Plano High School and played shortstop for Texas Tech University for four years.  After leading Tech to its first ever Southwest Conference Tournament, Wallace joined the Texas Rangers organization for two years before heading back to Tech as an assistant coach.

Tragically, at the age of 27, Brooks lost his battle with cancer leaving behind a legacy of good works, good friends and a knowlege by all that knew him that he loved the game of baseball and the game of life.  Brooks made such an impact on the game that in 2004, the College Baseball Foundation began awarding The Brooks Wallace Award the best college player each year.  In 2008, the CBA began awarding the honor to the best baseball shortstop  each year.

In honor of Brooks, next year’s tournament will be bigger and better than ever with plans to donate a portion of the proceeds for one or more scholarships to some deserving graduating senior players.

Thanks again to all the teams that participated.”
