17u Dallas Tigers – Allen Wins 18u Pastime Best of the Southwest Wood Bat Tournament
The 17u Dallas Tigers – Allen won the 18u Pastime Best of the Southwest Wood Bat Tournament at the University of Dallas. The team started 0-1 and then never looked back winning their next five to take home bragging rights at 5-1 overall. With strong pitching efforts by Anthony Dozzo, Logan Harvey, Ben Miller, Ty Reiter, Pepper Jones, Sean Trischett and C.J. Flores, the opposition was off balance and over-powered all weekend. Behind the dish in every solid outing were Mike Goller and Jeff Kavulich keeping the team focused in the Texas heat. Nathaniel Haynes and Brayden Allen were bullets in the outfield chasing everything down and Haynes snagged several uncontested bases. The sticks did not disappoint either as Blaine McKinney, Mike Goller, Nick Lorenzoni, Ty Reiter and Jordan Kruse raked all weekend.
It was the Jones/Goller 1-2 show again in the semi-final facing a strong CBA team as Jones dominated and went the distance for the Tigers striking out nine, allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks. The final versus Tier One Baseball out of Austin brought Haynes to the mound with Kavulich receiving. Haynes ran into trouble early, and moved to centerfield with Flores taking over the bump. The Tigers never looked back as Flores was in control. Flores went six innings, allowed two hits, no earned runs, walked three and struck out four.
“It was a great team effort on both sides of the ball. This is a special group of young men that all have bright futures, said Head Coach Kaine Allen after the game. “Overcoming adversity comes easy when they collectively have the same selfless approach to a common goal.”
The team is heating up at the right time as they head to Georgia next week to compete in the 17u Perfect Game Evoshield Classic. Stay hot gentlemen and best of luck in Atlanta!
