The 13U Tigers-Gil Bustillos team is having a fundraiser. The team is selling Dallas Tigers shirts (pictured here) for only $20 each. The shirts come in small, medium, large and XXL.

Email your order with number of shirts in each size to rick.gatt@sbcglobal.net, and make check payable to Rick Gatt. Team parents Lonnie and Lisa Morse generously donated the shirts and the embroidery work. All proceeds benefit the 13U Tigers-Gil Bustillos.

Let’s support this team. And make sure you let us know about your team’s fundraiser, as well. If you have a fundraiser or special event coming up, let us know so we can get it on the website or in the newsletter. Also, make sure you post the info on our new forum.

Be sure and watch for our next community service project. As I said last month, we are fortunate to play select ball and we always want to be good citizens and give back to our community. You guys (and girls) are the best of the best and I’m so proud of each one of you!

Keep up with current Tiger Team news, as well as news about our former Tigers. Pass down old uniforms or sell some good used baseball equipment. Find a baby-sitter, accountant, handyman, insurance agent or dentist. Do business with a fellow Tiger parent.

We now have string backpacks and beanies in stock. The beanies come in two styles with the fold over toboggan style or the simple beanie. Each comes in white or navy.  Backpacks are navy only. Please submit orders (preferably by team) to dtigertommy@hotmail.com with number and color of each.

Blake Beavan who played his Dallas select baseball with the Dallas Tigers Baseball Club and was a 1st round pick in the 2007 MLB draft heads off the big league camp.  Check out the video.

By now, our older guys are gearing up to start their high school season while our younger guys should be getting started with pratices.  Scrimmages and first tournaments are just around the corner.  Good luck to everyone.

Our college guys are kicking off their seasons too, and I wanted to share this photo that a dad sent me today from Sunday’s UT Alumni game.  Below are former Dallas Tigers Curtis Thigpen (currently with the Oakland As) catching while Jonathan Walsh is hitting.  Walsh is the third Tiger catcher that has played for UT in recent years (Thigpen-’01 Tigers, Preston Clark-’04 Tigers and Walsh-’09 Tigers).  For me, it is awesome to watch Tigers of all ages still playing together.

Other big news came from Tusla with Dennis Bigley (Tigers ‘01) was inducted into the Oral Roberts Hall of Fame this last weekend.  Dennis was drafted by the Blue Jays and played pro ball for several years.  His younger brother Evan is currently playing in the Twins organization.

That’s news from our older guys, and now to our youngest guys. I want to welcome our newest Dallas Tigers team – our eight year olds!  Think back to when each of you older guys were 8, playing coach pitch and just starting your baseball careers.  Remember, these guys not only look up to you, but you set the standard for them to follow in your footsteps.  Tigers, keep making us proud!

And what about the girls?  I am also proud to announce that for the second year, we are welcoming the Dallas Tigers Softball Club-yes, girls! My neice, Sara Hernandez, is heading up the Tigers Softball Club.  Sara is a graduate of UT-El Paso and is a four year letterman in softball and a two-year soccer letterman.  We are excited and proud to have the girls join us.

But it’s not all about baseball.  We are fortunate to be able to play select baseball and I expect every member of the Club to give back to our community.  Along those lines, we are participating in a new service project with the softball club. See the details below about the service project and please make an effort to participate.  Let’s turn out to help our servicemen and women!

Brett Byrum and Zach Metzer (Ingram 16U) attended the January 9-10 Perfect Game National Underclass Showcase in Ft. Myers, FL.

Jake Thompson and Jackson Morris were invited to compete in the 4th Annual International Power Showcase held at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida.  The event consisted of workouts at the IMG Baseball Training Facility in Bradenton, FL,  a tour and batting practice at Steinbrenner Field (the New York Yankees Spring Training Facility), a banquet honoring the players and finally the competition. Check out the details at www.power-showcase.com.

The Dallas Tigers 9U team did it again.  In their 3rd tournament of the 2009 fall season they made it to the championship game.  In their 4th game of the day they left the Santa Cop Baseball Tournament with 2nd place.

Thank you Grand Praire Boys Baseball, Inc for putting on the Santa Cop Tournament and congratulations 9U Dallas Tigers in your first season!

In only their second tournament the 9U Dallas Tigers take it to the championship game on Sunday night in the North Fall State Tournament in Coppell, Texas.  Only loosing by 3 runs in the last game they took home 2nd place in their 3rd game of the day.
