14U Polk are Champs at MidSouth Select 30 in Mississippi

What a weekend for Dallas Tigers 14U Polk who went out to Southaven, Mississippi and brought home the hardware.  The Tigers had a tough road to sled after stubbing their toe in Game 1 of pool play on Saturday.  The Tigers came roaring back to run the table winning their next 6 games including beating Team Sandlot in the Championship.

“I cant put into words how proud I am of this team”, Coach Coy Polk commented.  “Our backs were against the wall and these guys showed everyone what they are made of.  They poured every ounce of energy into every game and played their tales off.  The best part of this Championship is no one will really understand what we went through to get there.  It was such a gutsy performance by everyone of those boys.  I think this TEAM proved to themselves what they’re capable of.  Absolutely amazing weekend.”

Way to represent the Dallas Tigers Organization fellas!!!  Keep on working hard!

12U Polk Champs over 13U Team Mizuno

Dallas Tigers Chad Polk

The rain held off long enough this past weekend in McKinney for Dallas Tigers 12U Polk to get the championship match up with 13U Team Mizuno. The game was a battle with Team Mizuno throwing a fire baller at the Tigers.

“We faced 2 hard throwers last weekend, but what we saw tonight definitely had more velocity. And he was throwing his breaking ball for strikes,” said coach Chad Polk. “Our kids battled and got some barrels on him and from the pitchers reaction he wasn’t used to that.”

Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and Team Mizuno came back to tie it up in the 3rd. In the 4th Mizuno took a 3-2 lead. Then bottom of the 4th, left handed hitting Jared Thomas leads off with a rocket double down the right field line. Thomas advances to 3rd on passed ball and Jonah McCormack hits a deep sac fly to bring in the tying run to make it 3-3. Next batter, Jayson Jones, walks and the clean-up hitter, Josh Hoover, hits a deep fly ball off right field fence for a double but Jones is thrown out at 3rd trying to advance. Now with a runner on second, 2 outs, and 2-0 count on Owen Peck the umpires suspend the game into rain delay!

“I didn’t get that …it has just started raining and we are a pitch away from either winning the game or inning over for clean stopping point for a rain delay,” said coach Polk.

Regardless, after the rain delay the tournament director called the tournament. Because of #1 seed status for the Dallas Tigers they were awarded the Champions trophy.

Polk ended saying this, “Hey, I’m proud of our guys and that’s a big momentum booster for our team! Physically we were overmatched by older kids and the guy on the mound was the best we’ve seen. Our hitters showed me something tonight. As for our pitchers, they were great all weekend, but what Walker Polk and Josh Hoover did tonight was exactly what gutty hard-nosed competitors do. They stepped up big on the mound for our team. Proud of those 2 young men and looking forward to seeing other guys do the same.”

Way to represent young men! Keep building the momentum!

11U Richardson Win USSSA Fall State Championship

Dallas Tiger 11U-Richardson took home the gold rings at the 2014 USSSA Falls State Championship on Sunday. After a 1-1 start on Saturday the Tigers were perfect Sunday, going 3-0 in bracket play and outscoring their opponents 28-12.

A strong team effort, both offensively and defensively, helped the Tigers battle through a tough semifinal round. Tied at 2-2, the game was decided in a Texas Tiebreaker. The Tiger’s bats came alive in the top of the inning, tacking on 3 more runs. In the bottom of the inning the team’s defense held strong, allowing only 1 run. The Tigers won 5-3 to advance to the finals.

The Tigers jumped out an early lead in the first inning of the final game, scoring 2, and they never looked back. Another strong defensive effort held their opponent scoreless through the first 3 innings. Dallas Tigers 11U-Richardson went on to win the championship with a 5-3 victory.

10U-Polk Finish Strong at USSSA Global World Series

USSSA Baseball World SeriesThe 10U Dallas Tigers coached by Chad Polk and Brett Bergman, continued their winning ways this past week at the USSSA Global World Series in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  With 2 one run wins in bracket play against Team Mizuno and East Cobb Mets, the 10U Dallas Tigers emerged as champs.

In the championship game, there were 6 lead changes in the back-and-forth affair.  In the bottom of the last inning the Tigers were down by 1 run and were able to tie it up to send the game into extra innings.  With an international tie breaker in the top of the 7th inning, the East Cobb Mets scored 1 run to take the lead.  In the bottom half of the extra inning, the Dallas Tigers answered back with a 2 out RBI base hit by Ryan Radtke and hustle got him to second base.  Ultimately with an 0-1 count, 2 outs, and runner at second base, Jonah McCormack doubled to right center for the game winning hit and RBI.

“This game may be one of the most dramatic games I’ve been a part of with all the lead changes,” commented Chad Polk, 10U coach.  “This group of boys have demonstrated this type of grit and determination all year.  For this “team personality” to come into play in our season finale was just remarkable to be a part of and experience.  What this group of boys experienced this week was off the chart.  Very proud of them all.  When playing at this level, it is very hard to win the last game of the season and they did it.”

The 2014 Dallas Tigers had an incredible run winning 3 major tournaments to finish the season with USSSA State Championship, Travel Sports World Series, and USSSA Global World Series.  In that span, they won 27 of 28 games which including a 21 game winning streak to end the season!

In the USSSA Global World Series they lead the entire tournament with Best Scoring : 10.5/game and Best Run Differential: 7.125/game.

Congratulations boys and parents on an incredible season!
